A Common Complaint – Headache Caused By Neck Pain

I know the problems of neck pain as I myself suffered from neck pain. I do have great amount of concern for my clients who suffer from neck pain.

I’ve always been a positive upbeat person but I will admit that after living with chronic neck pain and associated side affects like headaches, even I wanted to throw in the towel more than once.

If you frequently experience headaches due to neck pain. The stiffness in the neck muscles or pain in the back of the neck will be the major reason.

When there is more pressure on the neck muscles the pain increases. The time the pain lasts can anything between few hours or days. These headache will not be very severe on the other hand they will be mild.

The pain is generally on one side of the head and sometimes the shoulder of the same side but can sometimes spread to both sides of the head.

Other symptoms that are reported are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision on the side of the headache, difficulty swallowing and sensitivity to light and sound. In rare cases headache might increase and symptoms of migraine can happen.

They are most often caused by overuse of the neck muscles, stress and poor posture. The poor posture is generally a forward extension of the head and rounded back.

How could this be? Think about positioning a bowling ball on top of your head. If your posture is perfectly correct, this would be no problem. Now lean forward just a few inches – it’s now nearly impossible! Don’t underestimate just how heavy your head is in relation to the neck that’s supporting it.

Women are much affected with neck related headache as the report 4 times as much as men. How many men compared to women tend to stand with their shoulders straight and head up? This is not gender biased I just wanted you to watch.

Of course, correcting one’s posture is the simplest answer to correcting neck related headaches along with an ergonomic chair if you sit all day at a computer.

In some circumstances we compensate it by using other muscles like jaw muscles and shoulder muscles. In rare cases neck pain can be caused by trauma.

Can The Pain In the Neck Really Be Cured?

Some years back I had an automobile accident and due to that I suffered from severe neck and back pain nyc. The pain was so unbearable that I had to change how I sat; from seating straight I had to change my pose to a curved one. Car accident can often change life due to this onset of pain that cannot be cured fully.

Friends and clients I meet with similar problem have causes and symptoms that are very much different.

Injury or trauma to neck disc or nerve problems within the neck and arthritis are common cause for these pains. These problems arise also due to sitting for a long time before a computer, stress and also sleeping in an awkward position.

Neck pain can be severe at a time. It can be a sudden or chronic where it can last for more then three months depending on the cause. Some time exact diagnosis cannot be done. While sometime, it is diagnosed as Fibromyalgia for certain pains.

Sufferer mostly experience this pains in the form of muscle stiffness, soreness, stiff to the touch, acute pain strong enough to force the neck to turn to one side. They may also suffer pain in the base of the skull, one or both-sided headaches, pain radiating down the back and/or arms, tingling arms and/or fingers and general weakness in the neck and/or arms.

Neck pains are more common in women then in men.

These kinds of neck pain are very problematic and may disappear within two to three days. But sometimes this pain can be caused by a life threatening reason. This are very rare but happens at times.

Meningitis is such a rare kind of pain. This creates an inflammation in brain and spinal chord and is caused by viral as well as bacterial infection. Viral disease is generally common but not devastating. But bacterial meningitis is something very uncommon and can kill the patient as well.

Along with neck pain other symptoms are fever, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity towards light and sudden rashes. You may also have problem bending your neck and severe back aches as well.

Neck pain may also arise from intense head trauma. Then it may include symptoms like headache, nausea, vomiting, loss or complications in vision, hearing or balance, pain localized behind one eye and weakness in arm and/or leg muscles.

What precautions can be taken to avoid neck pain? For the pain that is not caused by serious neck injury or illness, regular routine should be followed as much as possible unless ones regular routine is the reason behind this pain. For such times, consider ergonomic solutions as the only solution.

If at all a neck collar is been prescribed to you, try not to use it very often as this gradually weaken the neck muscles. Doing exercise is a good option as this improves fitness and also neck muscles.

One important thing you should always remember that in this kind of pain, all the muscles around your neck, back and head are connected together. My Neck Pain is a Real Pain in the Neck!

Like many people, I suffered severe neck and upper back pain nyc due to an automobile accident years ago.
